Hi, other Unregistered! I've just found this post looking for help with my similar problems with Mandrake 8. I still can't get the .bin LimeWire to work, but thanks to the pointers on here I got the java version working. I'm using Blackdown Java, not Sun, but the problem was still that Linux was looking in the wrong place for java. 'whereis java' at a terminal will probably display: 'java: /usr/bin/java' If so, this fix should work for you. First find precisely where java is in your new java path - might be further down the path than /usr/local/jre1.3.1. Delete /usr/bin/java and replace with a symbolic link pointing to your new java (ln -s /usr/local/jre1.3.1/somemorepathmaybe/java /usr/bin/java). And that might well make 'java -classpath LimeWire.zip install' work. |
Thanks! That at least got it installed (java version)... although now while running it, it wont go any further than the LimeWire intro "window". It gets there and just hangs. Does it go through any initial configuration upon first running that could perhaps be failing? ----- Jeremy |
ok....got it working... god that was annoying being stuck unable to install. It is working now, thank you all. I had to run it once as root (as it was installed as root) to get it working right. |
I can't get it to work. Tried whereis java java : Downloaded j2re-1.3.1-FCS-linux-i386.tar.bz2 Installed it to /usr/local/j2re1.3.1 Added the lines to .bash_profile Tried whereis java again : java : What am I doing wrong? |
similar problem but no response at all I am having a very similar problem. When I attempt to install Limewire all I receive is the "Preparing to install.." message and then it sits and never gives any more messages and I have let it sit for an hour or two. Am I having the same problem or is something different? I am running RH 7.1 and I have the latest version of the java runtime enviroment installed. ryan |
Can you run it with strace and let us know what system calls it is doing when it is not finishing? -greg |
Downloaded JRE1.3.1 from SUN Now I got JAVA to work with the PATH... But if I write sh LimeWireLinux.bin while in Root mode, the system hangs. But if I'm logged in as a user I get the error message.
