![]() limewire 1.3 freezes at startup when the logo appears. i've been running it for about 10-15 minutes so far, so it's not a matter of time. i've watched the java process activity: it starts off using around 50% processing time then it drops to 10% and finally nothing. clicking in the logo window brings the activity back up to about 3-5%. it's handling the mouse events, so it's not completely frozen. yes, i am connected to the internet. i've tried the linux version and the "other" version using different jre's (IBMJava2-13, and blackdown j2sdk1.3.0 and jdk1.2.2). the jre's in those jdk's work with most java apps, so i don't think that it's the jre's themselves. although, the ibm jre doesn't display the buttons correctly in the installer. i'm running slackware 7.0 with kernel 2.4.0 and XFree86 4.0.1. my hardware is an abit bp6 with two celery 366's and 256 MB RAM. are there issues with smp? thanks |

gnut is not bad for linux. it's the best one i've used. hagelslag might be ok too. gnut successfully downloads about 0.5% of my download requests! yippee! the crowning achievement of gnut, though, was the completed download of a 450MB video @ 20k/sec. but this is only with gnut 0.4.17 not the new one which really sucks for me. i pretty much give up on gnutella. good luck. |

![]() I'm no expert on linux. However, I had my LimeWire freeze on me too. If you installed the LimeWire self installing program as root for example and then try to run it as user1 it seems to hang. I Changed the permissions on the LimeWare executable and this allowed the program to open and start. However ... while I can start the program as user1 now. I cannot download any programs. I can search for files etc. but it doesn't seem to download files. I have tried changing permissions on the directories but this doesn't seem to work. I even tried moving the whole thing to my home directory for user1. Still nothing. |

![]() I've seen the "freeze on startup" under Windoze, and in all three cases it's been cleared up by an un-install / re-install. It seems to be related to installing OTHER software (unrelated) after Limewire has been installed and running. Sequence goes like this : - install limewire (1.3), use ok - shutdown , reboot , run limewire ok - install other software - shutdown , reboot , limewire hangs at splash screen - un-install limewire -- go to top of sequence and start over. It's a PITA, but at least it gets me back on the network |
