Font specified in font.properties not found [--symbol-medium-r-normal--*-%d-*-*-p-*-adobe-fontspecific]

What do I do?

same problem pops ut every time i start limewire too, but I'm not sure it's related to mye other problems.
(connectivity list slowly shrinks as it fills ut with broken connetions that doesn't time out + frequent crashing... and it *seems* like the linux kernel runs out of threads.)

Font Problem:

Your fonts folder is missing the symbol.ttf file that java is looking for.

There should be a lib/font dir in your jre directory that contains fonts for java (it might be another folder, i really can't remember at this time). Copy symbol.ttf into this folder from your windows/fonts folder, (or just download that font), and you'll also have to modify the fonts.dir file in this folder as well. Increment the number at the top of this file by one, and add the following to the bottom of the file:

symbol.ttf -urw-symbol-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-adobe-fontspecific

LimeWire opening very small problem:

This may be a problem with the way that your window manager (kde/gnome/etc) is displaying the java output. I had this same problem, and had to go into gnome, run the RunLime, proceed through the setup, and then it worked fine under KDE for me. This is a frequently occuring problem.

Smile Font problem

I had this problem under RedHat 7.1 with Java 1.3.1. Sun has made available an alternative font.properties file available. Visit http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/relnotes.html and have a read of the Font Properties section. It only mentions RedHat but it should work for Mandrake too.
