Default unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread

Hi.
I've installed LimeWire and JAVA 2TM Runtime JRE 1.3.1. The problem is, that whenever I try to start LimeWire, with either sh LimeWire.sh or the other commands I get the message unable to initialize threads: cannot find java/lang/Thread. I'm running SuSe Linux 7.2 and when I type whereis java it give me the following message: /usr/lib/java.
Does this mean I have to set the variable in /etc/profile to /usr/local/jre1.3.1 (this is where it installed jre1.3.1)? I am a bit lost and I have trouble finding any documentation where it tells me about this error. Thanks in advance for your help
