big buttons :D Hello. I am having a problem with my limewire distro. its the latest one. Im on Gentoo Linux 2.6.9-r8 and kde 3.3.2 and the buttons in the .bin installer and the limewire are real big. as well as the drop down menu boxers and the loading bar. I emerged limewire and that was older. It was working at this point. then i installed the newer one and that worked. i figured i'd put the new files in the /usr/bin folder but that was stupid. bad mistake. too early and half asleep. never will do again. the buttons were still fine at this point and it was going to the old version. so i copied the new shell script as the old shell script name so i have both names so when it calls for the old one it gets the new one. i am pretty sure the buttons were okay at this point and it was working okay. But recently the buttons, drop down menus loading bars and everything are messed up. i dont know what to do here is the error i get with the limewire client. i think its basically the same with the installer so i will just paste the limewire error bash-2.05b$ LimeWire java.io.FileNotFoundException: out.txt (Permission denied) at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:179) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:70) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErr(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErrOnSupportedPlatfo rms(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.<init>(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source) java.io.FileNotFoundException: err.txt (Permission denied) at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:179) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:70) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErr(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErrOnSupportedPlatfo rms(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.<init>(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source) bash-2.05b$ LimeWire java.io.FileNotFoundException: out.txt (Permission denied) at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:179) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:70) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErr(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErrOnSupportedPlatfo rms(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.<init>(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source) java.io.FileNotFoundException: err.txt (Permission denied) at java.io.FileOutputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:179) at java.io.FileOutputStream.<init>(FileOutputStream.j ava:70) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErr(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.setStdOutStdErrOnSupportedPlatfo rms(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.<init>(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source) bash-2.05b$ I got an error previously stating that it couldnt find lucida-medium or something like that,. for some reason that isnt occuring. so i dont know. I just need a resolution real bad. Thanks so much.http://saveon-magazines.net/files/snapshot4.png |
Looks like you're using Java 1.3. Find a Java 1.4 or 1.5 installation and use that instead. There's a buncha posts on this forum about how to install Java on linux. |
Yeah. i just checked my version. I am all up to date. Even for the old limewire i assume portage would haskippy johnny # java -version java version "1.4.2-01" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build Blackdown-1.4.2-01) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build Blackdown-1.4.2-01, mixed mode) skippy johnny # date Thu Jan 6 21:13:05 EST 2005 skippy johnny # ve called for the new package and downloaded it if it needed it check this out: skippy johnny # java -version java version "1.4.2-01" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build Blackdown-1.4.2-01) Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build Blackdown-1.4.2-01, mixed mode) skippy johnny # date Thu Jan 6 21:13:05 EST 2005 skippy johnny # so i really dont know what to do. |
Then can you apply this: Java 1.5 (take the JRE) it has many improvements! (sorry I don't know if it applies to a unix agent such as Linux. But I'd presume if the Win can...) It might help if I can know anyway! ;) :) |
Use Sun's JRE instead of Blackdown's. There may be some differences between them. |
maybe something got corrupted or deleted when i was fiddeling. something for java was probably in usr/bin i might have deleted some stuff for java i thought was for limewire. :S beats me. I have java jre downloaded ill take a look on installing that. Ill keep ya posted. if there are any other posibilities that would cause this do not feel hisitant to say so. Thanks update: I just finished extracting the file using the binary java/sun provided into my /usr/local dir and i already have jdk installed um --- Somewhere  so how do i get this new version to take affect in everything. I read the installation guide to help me install. I already knew it but the usr/local idea was good. So if somone could help or point me somewhere i would appreciate it. Thanks. |
it stil is broken anyone got ideas? |
Greetings, The way you describe installing the Java Runtime Environment does not seem correct. If you are using an rpm - based system like fedora/mandrake/suse, java should be installed in /usr/java/jre-version number. Please make sure you are installing java only from java.sun.com - any other source is not guaranteed to work with limewire. Gentoo in particular uses Blackdown which often has problems with limewire. Please try that and let us know how it goes. |
