Works on Windows but not on Linux?

I have a dual-boot machine running Windows ME and Debian GNU/Linux 2.2r3. The machine sits behind a firewall machine with an ADSL connection. I have Limewire 1.6b installed on each OS. The settings are identical in each case, e.g. listen on same port, don't force IP address, same connection speed, same max connections etc. On Windows it works perfectly. On Linux it works as far as connecting to the network and searching for files goes, but both uploads and downloads fail. They either wait forever to connect or bomb out with a "couldn't connect" message. I'm pretty sure my network settings are OK, as mail, web, ftp all work fine. Is there something I've missed?

I know that a primary feature in any Linux distribution is security. I think that your system settings are not allowing LimeWire to act as a server (share files). I am not familiar with your Linux distribution, though. I use Mandrake 8.0, and there is a setup utility for configuring system security settings. So, I don't know how to change them manually.
