Upload limit not working I have the upload limit set to 19 k and it is still up at 34k. I think that this interfereing with my downloads. If I shut it off, I can hit 275(with good sorces). Otherwise I get sub 50.(total) Thanks Lazlow Lw 4.10.3 java 1.5.0_06 FC4 2.6.14-1.1656_FC4 cable 3m/256 |

Upgraded to 4.10.5 same problem or worse. Set at 19 and it holds at 35+. When it hits 45 it knocks all my downloads offline. No matter what I change the limit to, it just seems to ignore it. Closing the app does not seem to make any difference. The setting is still showing set correct when I restart it just does not seem to do anything. I have uninstalled, redownloaded and reinstalled with no effect. Any help? Please lazlow |

Great idea. Wished I would have thought of it. Unfortunately it did not help. My share file had not even exceeded ten files and it was at 40KB/s with the limit at 27. Had to drop it to 12KB/s just to keep it under 40. I did notice in the monitor that it is usually 1 dowloader(at a time) that is hogging alll the bandwidth. So far they have just been using LW. Versions seem to range 4.9 +. Anybody got a guess. (Yes limewire was completely shut down when I deleted the .limwire directory) Thanks Lazlow |

I've never heard of that type of thing happening before. Which speed/connection type setting do you have it set to? How many upload slots & how many upload slots per person? Try adjusting these. Change connection setting, change upload slots per person & max slots. From your description your bandwidth settings for upload don't seem to work. Perhaps under a different connection setting they will. BTW which version of Java are you running? This may well be a problem with an older version of Java not doing its job properly. The later the version, the more reliable they are & more options they tend to have. This may or may not make any difference, but try changing preferencing so each person must share at least a certain no. of files to upload such as 30 or 50. Do you have partial file sharing enabled? If yes, see if disabling it makes a difference to your upload controlling. As I said, I don't use Linux so excuse me if my ideas are a bit odd, but your problem sounds a little buggy. I'm just suggesting to try experimenting to see where you "are" able to gain control again. I'm sure there will be some point where you are able to gain control over uploads again. I don't know much about cable, but I'd have thought upload & downld bandwidth would be totally separate (as in adsl like I use.) But it sounds like they do affect each other in some way (such as can happen with dsl.) |

Changing the slots/# of connections does not seem to change much.Currently set at 5 slots, 1 connection/slot. java 1.5.0_06 The limit for them not to be a freedloader does not seem to effect much either. Currently set at 25 shares and 30% of the time. Trying disable partial file share.(Great Idea) The Cable interference only occurs when you max out your bandwidth. In this case the upload limit 500k up or about 45KB/S. If you cannot send out, you cannot request the next packet. If you do not request a packet within so long the other end kicks you out of the que. I will try switching to a T3 setting next.( I had not though of that) Thanks for all the ideas Lazlow |

Ok, deactivate partial file share had no effect. Switching to T1=Bad. Lower limit is 31KB/s and it runs up to 45KB/S. Switching to T3=Worse. Lower limit is 130 KB/s. Nice flatline of all downloads. I will recheck to see if there is a more current java but I thought I just installed it a couple of weeks ago. Is there another java option? Blackdown maybe? or is that just a compiler? Ideas are welcome. Thanks for the help. Lazlow |

Ok, java check at sun says java is ok.(current) I am starting to believe that the limit is acting per connection rather than total. I currently have the limit set at 12KB/s with 3 downloaders 1 connection each. Each downloader is running about 12KB/s and the meter is showing 38KB/s. Maybe just a coincedence but maybe not. All ideas are welcome. Lazlow |
