Trying to solve: java.lang.NullPointerException Howdy, I'm writing this having gone through the troubleshooting steps so many times that I feel I could work for LimeWire on a professional basis. I'm trying to get to the bottom of my problem, which is that LimeWire18-c will not start, quoting the following error: STARTUP ERROR Java version 1.3.1_01 from Sun Microsystems Inc. Linux v. 2.4.8-26mdk on i386 Free/total memory: 18816328/19922944 java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException: java.lang.ExceptionInInitializerError: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.limegroup.gnutella.util.CommonUtils.<clinit>(C ommonUtils.java:116) at com.limegroup.gnutella.SettingsManager.<clinit>(Se ttingsManager.java:181) at com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.ResourceManager.<clinit >(ResourceManager.java:68) at com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.Initializer.initialize( Initializer.java:71) at com.limegroup.gnutella.gui.Main.main(Main.java:17) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Native Method) at RunLime.main(RunLime.java:77) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Native Method) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.launch(Unknown Source) at com.zerog.lax.LAX.main(Unknown Source) Now, I've installed/uninstalled both the vanilla jre and sdk packages of java1.3.1-01, I've installed/uninstalled LimeWire, I've checked my PATH's...everything. Now, one thing I've noticed is that, when installed LimeWire, I get the following error at the end of the install log: Install Action: RPMSpecFile Status: ERROR Additional Notes: ERROR - java.lang.NullPointerException What exactly is this referring to, because it's also mentioned in the LAX crash? I actually had LimeWire up and running only last week, but since this problem arose, I'm just stumped. Any help would be appreciated. |
Jet lettin you know I have the same problem. Someone please post if you find a fix or anything. |
Well, I've since switched to Qtella...I'll switch back when LimeWire puts out some sort of fix. Spending hours to get a Java-based gnutella client going simply isn't worth the hassle. I'd love to support the guys at LimeWire, but I just don't think the current app is solid enough. |
I too was checkin out Qtella. I haven't tried it out though. I hear that they have multisource downloading scheduled for an unstable release soon. |
Qtella 0.3.0 is very nice, and is a marked improvement over what came with my distro. The only think that needs work is the search tool (needs a visual indicator of it's activity/timeout). If Qtella keeps developing in this direction, I won't have any need for Limewire. |
ditto Just adding my two cents. I get exactly the same stack trace as the original poster and see exactly the same error in the install log. The only difference is that I have IBM's JDK installed rather than Sun's. I am running Mandrake 8.1 with the KDE shell. |
Ditto, I got the same error. Bummer. |
I too am getting the same error as the orginal poster..... Weird how it worked when I orginally installed then started coming up with that same trace, a while latter RH 7.2 Sun 1.3.1_01 Jre |
Also same error, RH7.2 jre1.3.1_01... Too bad, I loved LW under Windows... |
Try Java 1.3.1, Not 1.3.1_01. I have it working on perfectly on RH 7.1, Java 1.3.1, Limewire1.8-c w/ installer. |
I had this running properly on RH7.2 with jre1.3.1_01 for a few days and then it dumped I also had that install error in my logs I installed 1.3.1 and it is working again I don't know why mine did work and then quit, because I don't remember installing anything large in the time between |
I would strongly recommend giving the new beta a try -- you can get it from: http://www.limewire.com/index.jsp/download_beta This version is getting VERY close to final release, and it includes many, many new features (check out the beta section if you want to know what they are). Is anyone still having problems with the installer listed there? Thanks. |
Version 2.0.1 Beta Just letting you know that Version 2.0.1 Beta solves the "Java.lang.nullpointerexception" problem. Or at least it does on my system, with Mandrake 8.1. |
Great to know -- thanks for reporting back. Just to let everyone know, I will be on vacation (in lovely St. Martin -- oooohh) for a few weeks, so I won't be able to respond to anyone's messages until the middle of January. I hope everyone has a happy holidays. Best, |
