Default How to install Limewire on SimpleMepis 6 or 6.5

These installing instructions are for people that are new to Linux. I feel that this will help.

1. Download the Deb package (Ubuntu or Debian) from the Limewire web site. Save file to desktop.

2. Click on the saved file named LimeWireLinux.deb, this should start a program call KPackage.

3. Click on Limewire-basic ( this could be Limewire-Pro if you download the pro edition) Click Install on lower right on KPackage window.

4. A new KPackage windows will appear, this is to confirm and to give you more option when installing. Leave Allow Downgrade, Check Conflicts, Check Dependencies [X] , Do not check [ ] Test (do not install) , Leave Keep this window [X].

5. Press install. You will see that the package is being installed on the right. It will not take long to install. You should see Result=[0] , if so, click Done. If not, please check with Mepis forums for help. (search Kpackage Result=[the # you have] ex. Result=[1] )

6. Goto Kmenu>Find Files/Folders. In the search type:

Named: Limewire
Look In: / (Hint: This will search the entire Linux Hard Drive)

Click Find.

7. After the Search, there should be 3 hits. Look for limewire usr/bin 54
date read-only. Click this file, It will start limewire.

8. Copy limewire in usr/bin to Panel with Kmenu, home, ect. You can change the icon from here. kde-look.org has some good limewire icons.

9. If you are not connected to the server, you need to goto guarddog firewall and restart the option for gnutella severs.

10. Goto Kmenu>Internet>Security>Guarddog. Type in your password to change settings.

11. Click on the Protocol tab and a list will appear on the right. Click the + on file tranfer. You will see a Gnutella - file sharing network [X], uncheck this box and click apply.

12. Open limewire from the shortcut on Kmenu Panal, after limewire starts, complete the startup, and once running, Re-check the Gnutella - file share network and click apply. Do a search to test connection.

Please DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR FIREWALL. This is not a safe practice!

I hope this helps, I am sure there is an easier way, but this worked for me...
