Installation Error

I'm getting this annoying error message when I try to install newer versions of LimeWire on Linux. I believe the problems started with version 1.7 but don't take my word on that. Anyway, when I start up the binary, the loading bar on the splash screen fills up 3/4 way and then disappears, and returns this error:

Do you have a java runtime environment version of at least 1.3.1 installed? What shows up when you type "java -version" into a console? And what Linux distribution are you installing on?
