Mandrake 8.1 installation problems

Hey,

I had a hell of a time installing limewire until I figured out that the installer was running the wrong java file... let me explain: open a terminal and run java. If the java program says "usage keffe" and then options, you are going to have a problem. install the java 1.3.1 rpm. after, do the following:

cd /usr/bin
ls ja*
./java
** you should see the "usage: keffe" thing here**
cp ./java ./java.bak
** the next line creates a symbolic link to the REAL java binary. replace XXXXXX with whatever dir you find underneath /usr/java **
ln -s /usr/java/XXXXXX/bin/java java
then go back to your home directory and re-run the installation file!!

Wow. Wouldn't it be easier to just get rid of Kaffe, install a newer JRE, and then make sure it's in your path??? There is no need to trick your system with the symbolic link and make it so sloppy. Just my opinion....

I Thought I Was The First?

I have the ultimate solution for multiple distributions but it is nice to know that there is a thread that actually had a solution for any distribution whatsoever! My hats off to the "Daddy" !:)

If anyone here has upgraded or have a multiple linux distribution install on one system, try my suggestions and let me know your mileage.
My post is under, "The Solution to All Install Problems". I know I know ..it is kind of heady but I haven't been disproved yet. Try and be the first. Cheers.
