![]() Hi, This problem is really annoyning. I check the host count at limewire and it's in the hundreds of thousands. I never show more than 500 in my statistics window. And when I search I almost never get the item I'm looking for (hardly surprising considering how few hosts are showing up). So what's the deal?? Why can't I access more hosts? I'm using limewire 2.3.0 on Mac OSX. |

![]() a) your host count is not even nearly accurate, especially if you aren't an ultrapeer. b) due too gnutella's structure you'll never reach the complete network. If you are lucky, you will reach 10,000 hosts with one query. This number could easily rise, if more people would use modern clients with ultrapeer-capabilities. |

![]() Thanks for the reply, Taliban. But here's the problem: there's supposedly hundreds of thousands of hosts in the network; I'm showing 122. Doesn't that seem like a small number? If not, what is---1? Are you saying that the statistics on the limewire website are screwy? Or is the hosts listing on my limewire statistics window really wrong? I am running as an ultra-peer, by the way. I'd love to get the pro version of limewire, but either there aren't many hosts on the network or I can only reach a few of them (sucks either way), so what's the point in buying limewire if I can't find anything with it? |

![]() Your host count only shows the Ultrapeers you have seen yet. Other non-LimeWire clients and LimeWire leaf-nodes don't appear in that statistics. You can multiply that number by 50 to be able to make a safe guess. The longer you are running LimeWire, the more hosts, you statistics might show, since your client will not become aware of any Ultrapeer that does not send a certain message to the network and the longer you stay online, the more likely the Ultrapeer is to send the message. After running LimeWire an hour or so, my host count is usually between 500 and 1500. This host count has no direct impact on the number of hosts you reach with a search, however. |
