I can't search, or connect!!!!!!

I am also at a university with ethernet, and sometimes Limewire will connect and work fine; other times, the majority of the time, it will not connect at all. What's with the inconsistency?

I have an imac, running OS X on a adsl connection . Ihave used limewire on OS 9 which worked ok. Today I downloaded limewire for OS X but so far I dont seem able to make a connection, can anyone help please ? Have I forgotten to do something?
