all uploads fail I have several problems with LimeWire. It's a cool program, but it is buggy as hell. Not only does it regularly freeze my computer, but once I launch it, I cannot quit unless I reboot my computer. When I try to quit, all it does is minimize the program into the dock. Grrrrr. But, ignoring those issues, I'm completely comfused on how to enable uploading. At first I thought it might be a router problem, so I disconnected the router and plugged the DSL modem straight to my Mac. That didn't help. So I completely turned off my personal firewall (Norton) figuring I must not yet have found the correct settings to allow LimeWire uploads to get past it. But still, all attempted uploads from my machine are failing. I feel bad that I'm sponging and taking music without giving, but for the life of me I can't figure what I need to do to let people upload. Any suggestions?? |

1) Freezes were fixed in the latest version, I believe. 2) To quit it instantly go to options->shutdown->shutdown immediately 3) If your uploads start at all, I mean if there is any data transfer, you don't really have to worry. |

1) I downloaded the most recent version this morning and have frozen up since then. 2) There is no "options" menu, and no "shutdown" option under any of the menus. Are you talking about the OSX version? 3) I have not had a single successful upload. And when I watch the monitor, no files ever even start to transfer. The screen remains blank. |

1) What kind of freezes are you experiencing? Is the GUI completely unresponsive? Does LimeWire use your complete CPU time? 2) ok, tools -> options -> shutdown... 3) That's normal, if you aren't sharing anything anybody wants. If you are firewalled, many people won't even try downloading from you, anyway. |

1) Cursor moves when I move mouse, but nothing I click on is responsive. Keyboard seems to do nothing. If system is asleep, I cannot wake it. I have no idea about if LW uses complete CPU time. My guess is no, but I'm not completely sure what that means. 2) Only thing under the tools menu is "statistics." I have managed to forcequit a couple times, but usually I have to force a reboot by using a straightened paperclip in that annoying little hole on the side of my Mac. 3) With more than 6000 songs, I suspect that I have something somebody wants. And judging from the number of failed attempts I was getting with the firewall up, I'd say I have stuff people are trying to get. I did manage for a brief time this afternoon to get a few files to upload, but then LW froze my system again, and I haven't been able to get uploads working again since then. |

1) That's none of the kind of freezes I know from LimeWire. I think you really have to worry. 2) If you can't open the options menu, something is very wrong indeed. 3) Try sharing fewer songs. Sharing 6000 songs may work on normal computers but obviously not on yours. With all those freezes, invisible options and such first thing I'd do is check if I installed the right Java Runtime Environment (should be Sun's 1.3.1 or 1.4). Second thing I'd do is dump LimeWire or the computer, - that kind of behaviour is weird, to say the least. |

1) What kind of freezing was LimeWire causing? 2) There is no options menu. And there is only one item in the tools menu. It's not that I have greyed out options, it's that there is only one option under there tools menu. Are you talking about the Mac OS X version of LW? 3) My computer is a "normal" computer. It's an iMac. Certainly that's not as nice as G4, but it's a fine machine. I have no problems with anything other than LimeWire. |

1) Well, it completely locks up the system even the mouse (or sometimes it makes the whole system incredibly slow) although the bugs causing that behaviour were more or less fixed in the last version. It's quite strange if you are still able to move the mouse... 2) Ah, you're right, I forgot you don't have the options menu on MacOSX. It's your "Preferences..." menu, listed in the application menu on the screen menu bar. But from then on it should be the same. 3) I don't know if your imac has enough horsepower to share 6000 songs. I rather doubt it. Try sharing less files (like 1000 or so) |

1) Hmmmmmm . . . well, the freezes I get match what other people have talked about in this forum, though they were mostly with the previous version. The freezes are much less frequent with the new version, but still happen occasionally. 2) I found something in a previous thread to fix my shutdown problem. I had the wrong thing selected in my preferences, which I believe is what you were trying to get at all along, I just didn't know it. I think you were speaking Windows, and I was trying to listen in Mac. LOL. At least that problem is solved. 3) It'd be a pain in the **** to reconfigure the organization of my music to only have 1000 songs available. Bah. I have managed to share quite a few now, though, so I don't feel bad anymore. I'll just bypass the firewall from time to time to share, but leave it on most of the time so things are less buggy. Thanks for all your help. |
