2.7.6 crashes Jaguar

Help! Limewire 2.7.6 (I downloaded the upgrade to 2.7.7, but that's what it says in the about window ...) crashes my system approx. 15-30 min after loading. I run 10.2.2 on an iBook 700. THE SAME THING happens with Acquisition 0.67, so I guess it must have something to do with the Java implementation. But no one else seems to have this problem. So what did i do wrong? I've already installed/uninstalled the thing several times, run Norton Systemworks. The only version that doesn't crash is Classic. But it's so slow, and takes all my memory.
What can I do?

I'm having trouble running 2.76 on a G4 400, it bogs down the machine "big time."

That's what LimeWire does to OS X.x. It bogs down your machine. Lots of RAM will help, and I've seen workarounds posted here somewhere that involve using the terminal to take away some of the resources that Java eats up. It's getting better, albeit slightly, thanks to either LimeWire or Apple or who cares who, but it's not there yet.
I've turned down the upload speeds a bit in preferences to save a little for browsing, and disabling Ultrapeer stopped mine from crashing. Even though LW techs insist that it won't help, I can demonstrate reliably that ultrapeer crashes my LW within 5 minutes. Disabled, crash be gone.
