Default Java 1.4.1DP5 makes dramatic difference in LW

Go download the Developer's Preview 5 of Java 1.4.1. It speeds up Limewire dramatically!

You have to register to get it, but it's free!

Exclamation No it doesn't.

Nobody listen to this clown, LimeWire will not run with the 1.4.1DP5 environment selected, it will fail when attempting to initialize QuickTime for the media player (whether or not you've got the "built-in" media player enabled). Having 1.4.1DP5 installed does not mean that 1.4.1DP5 is the selected JRE. To select this environment, run "sudo jsettestjdk 1.4.1" from a command line; use 1.3.1 to go back to what's tried and true. Check available versions by looking in /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions .

Default Works fine here

I'm not sure what you are talking about, but Limeware 2.7.11 and the new DP5 Java run great and doesn't affect my Quicktime performance. A happy customer here!

Default You're probably not using 1.4.1

When you install 1.4.1DP5, 1.3.1 remains your default JVM unless you specifically request 1.4.1.

To request 1.4.1, open the Terminal and type "sudo jsettestjdk 1.4.1"

Replace 1.4.1 with 1.3.1 to switch back.

1.4.1DP6 now sets the default JVM to 1.4.1. A standard installation of LimeWire will still not work with it.

Default

I've also installed the latest Java 1.4.1 Developer Preview as well, and Limewire does not work with it.

To determine what version of Java you have enabled, open the Terminal and at the promtpt, type:

java -version

and hit return.

With the 1.4.1 Developer Preview, Limewire stops with an internal errror before it even finishes starting up....
