You're talking to the ignorant here, Trap_jaw.

I don't even know where to find the runLime script. [I assumed you meant RunLime.jar, but when I opened it with TextEdit all I got was garbage.]

I'll be ready to try if you give me pointers.

By the way, I experimented more this morning and found that 2.8.0 (launched from the Terminal Window) settles down rather quickly and starts running normally. However, the minute I launch another application, Window Manager jumps back up to 97% and then sloooowly comes down to 60-70%. I tried this with two different applications.

I'm happy to take part and run all these tests, but at some point I would like to get back to uploading and downloading files -- they're for my son. He's a terrific kid. I hate to promise him things and then not deliver.

No, I didn't mean that. By default, LimeWire should create an executable file (possibly named "LimeWire" or "runLime.sh") that is run when you click on the LimeWire icon. I believe this one is the problem.

I'll try downloading the MacOSX version from LimeWire.com - then I'll tell you what file I mean.

Trap_Jaw,

I downloaded the Mac OS X Beta version 2.8.0 from LimeWire.com this morning. This is the version I'm referring to.

The LimeWire folder contains LimeWire (the application), a series of .jar files (LimeWire, RunLime, etc.) several other folders and files, but nothing that I recognize as a script and nothing that TextEditor recognizes. Am I missing something?

Probably not, - don't bother it was just an idea. I just found that I can't play with LimeWire on MacOSX anyway, since the only Mac that I can access is running SuSE Linux...
