![]() I hope that people come by here before they download 2.8.5 for either OS 9 or OS 10, so that they can be warned: DON'T DO IT! It's really BAD! You will have problems with downloading on some systems, and from what I have seen, uploaders will have nothing but problems and bad results. I started with the version for OS 10, and had similar problems. That is why I am writing here instead of the older Mac section. I wrote earlier that I had version 2.4.3 on OS 9, and tried it. I immediately got a warning splash screen telling me I had to upgrade or I would not be able to connect to the network. DON'T BELIEVE IT! NOT TRUE! I connected, downloaded and watched others with older versions upload successfully. Then, because I had kept the installer for version 2.4.3, I got brave and downloaded 2.8.5 and installed it. Wouldn't you know it, ??? Would not connect!!! Checked calendar to make sure it is not April, and scratched my head. I dumped the preferences, and restarted 2.8.5 and reset the prefs, and it now works, sorta. I can download no problemo, but going into the monitor window, I watched many people connect with 2.8.5, and seconds later, disappear. I also watched someone with version 2.4.4 connect and stay connected while all of his new and improved brethren were dropping like flies. Oh sure, they reconnect again right away, but then they drop again, and again, and again. Meanwhile, 2.4.4 just keeps chugging right along, in spite of the fact that it CANNOT CONNECT TO THE NETWORK! Now you should also know that if you already made the mistake after having been given poor poor advice from LimeWire, that there will be no fix until after the holidays, because they have all left. I have previously signed up for two terms of the Pro Version, because I like getting these files and I trusted these people to do a respectable job, but I will not renew when the current 6 months expire. Apparently, they do not adequately test their gear before they unleash it on us, and I don't appreciate that one bit. |
