Where are you people finding 2.8.6? Where are you people finding 2.8.6? www.LimeWire.com still offers 2.8.5 both for Pro users and freebies. Janet |
Hi Janet: I was given a download page that lasts 6 months that I bookmarked. It took me to a Pro page that shows 2.8.6. I don't think I can give out that URL, but let me know if you cannot find it. I guess I could put the installer in my Public folder for you. |
I guess you must have found it. How is it working for you? My main complaint now is that it will still do the unexpected quit more than it should, but I can at least function with this version. It does seem to have problems connecting to big files, as you suggested, though. I had 10 sources and it 'retried' for 278 whatevers for hours until it finally crashed without ever connecting. I found that odd. Hopefully they get kinks worked out soon for us. |
i cant find 2.8.6 anywhere, but every time i start limewire, it tells me i should upgrade (im using 2.8.5). what gives??? |
Pearl, I found 2.8.6 at VersionTracker. Clueless, I've hardly had the time to try it out -- maybe over the weekend -- first reaction: same as 2.8.5, namely 1. Window Manager bug appears to be there still [I'll run some serious tests tomorrow]. 2. Once download requests go into a "requery" loop, they stay there -- only if I do search and the file I'm interested appears does LimeWire attempt to connect. What's the meaning of the Requery loop, if LimeWire doesn't try to reconnect everytime it reaches zero? 3. All files in the "Waiting...busy" state eventually return to "Requery." This seems to be another aspect of the seven minute rule. 4. A 2.8.6 user is currently trying to upload from me but somehow the upload file name has gotten scrambled. I tried to initiate a chat in order to tell him, but the chat window simply doesn't appear. Since I rarely use chat, I can't say if this is new or not. More when I find the time. Janet |
Yes, your #'s 2 and 3 I have experienced as well. The connection and requery cycles you mentioned are more evident in these last few releases. Plus it is turning out to be more crash prone, the more I use it. I am considering trying to delete the prefs and perhaps reinstall, at least building new prefs. I also downloaded something I have not yet tried called Jaguar Cache Cleaner. It's supposed to fix some apps that seem to crash too much. |
