Default repeating what everyone has already said

requery sent again. I have 20 of them on my screen right now. tried all the tricks, closing and re-opening limewire. all that. the two files that ARE downloading are going at 1kbps. I know I don't pay all that money for cable just because I like the cable guy. And here's one for you. one of the files that has been requerying all night, actually has the little smiley face chat icon. If I can chat with someone why in the HELL can I not download files from them?
I decided to go to the LW website and look around to see if I could find any new updates. If you ever get bored, go to limewire.com and look at the recent upgrades in the gnutella section. 2000! three years for pete's sake. do you guys update your underwear as often as your programs? Somebody please tell me how on Earth I can chat with someone, and upload files at 24-30kbps, and I can only d/l at 1kbps, and get a requery msg 99.9% of the time? No exxageration, out of the last 100 files I attempted, only one of them even BEGAN to download. ALL of them have ended in requery. Are you guys planning on fixing this program, or just continuing to ripp people off until word gets out?

If you are looking for info on when the next version will be released, you've probably seen Trap_Jaw's links to some good sources to search. If you are looking to help isolate which of many possible variables trigger the "requery" problem, do kindly post which ones you've managed to eliminate.

If you want help about feeling ripped off, sorry, but I'm out of touch--I think your feelings are best privately discussed with a counsellor. I know recent TV and 1st year psych groups insist that feelings are important for the public interest and that I'm being insensitive. Too, the RIAA and MPA feel ripped off by the cable companies and p2p clients, so you're not alone.

As for wanting to know about the developer's underwear . . .
I just want them to keep working on the many problems running p2p clients on OSX, since I'm a long way from learning to write code.

So, any new tricks to get that one file to work? Did the smiley chat respond to explain why you can chat with him or her (see--I did learn something from the 90's) but not get decent file connections?

Gnutella is pretty unreliable at the moment. The next versions of LimeWire, BearShare and gtk-gnutella will try to solve those problems.

As for the requerying. - LimeWire will send exactly ONE requery for ONE of your downloads every 45 minutes. To have even a chance all the downloads can find new sources you have to leave LimeWire running several hours.

Ahh! Does the time display (* seconds remaining...) relate to the 45 minutes? I'm guessing now that this stat display should just be ignored.

Would manually re-searching for the file involve the 45 minute delay for a previous search, or restart a new 45 minute count? That might explain why re-searching sometimes succeeds!

Default Yeah me too!!

Nothing but requeries, and nothing but slow DL's. I am SO feeling your pain. When I DL directly from a website, it goes lickety-split. Also, it USED to work fine, even in OSX--myold laptop was running Jaguar and I could still DL from LW like a speed demon. Now I get my new laptop, also Jag, and all of a sudden it's like, "Durrrr, I know I just searched for that file, and I told you there were 25 copies of it, but now I'm giving you a requery, or I'll just DL it at 1 byte/second and then crap out after ten minutes." I mean that's not literally what it says but the SENTIMENT IS IMPLICIT.

Is it really a Gnutella issue? Well, so what gives?

No WAY I'm paying $8 or $10 for LimeWire Pro if this is all I can squeeze out of it.

Accessing the network using another client like Acquisition is one way to pass the time while the Limewire team works on the problems noted. I read the other day that Limewire bought an OSX box for the office, so someone at Limewire should be able to see what problems are platform specific (or give up on OSX in general). I've been expecting the next beta release (2.9) this week . . .

BTW, experience with the library problem sometimes works for a similar situation in Acquisition, but the research/resume gimmick requires too much babysitting in both clients. I've also paid for both to help encourage development, because it looks so tempting to just give up.

Looks like 2.9 ain't going to be released just this week. - Probably some last minute bugfixes keeping the release...

afisk just announced 2.9, but warns that it should be considered "alpha."

I'm looking for the download link..... just found it low on my Pro page.

Default Acquisition seems to be working better!

Hey thanks for the hot tip!I'm getting much better results with Acquisition. It's sad to lose Limewire after using it for so long, but hey, if they're going to be buggy, I gotta take care of me. Ya dig?

Yeah, I dig--into my pocket for both so they take care of me. I still hope the two can get together, since Limewire works on the core, and Dave works on the GUI. One of these days I'm going to run both at the same time and see what happens.
