This site? Pro support is elsewhere; posts here are voluntary.

Default prefs are usally good enough, so you shouldn't need any special settings for OSX. Hard to tell from your post what the problem might be. Some possibilities are corrupt/old prefs--LW has changed so much recently. Too, sounds like you could've tapped into hosts sharing a lot of corrupt files, or your old incompletes are corrupt. I haven't seen the "corrupt" message for a long time.

Generally, I first try a restart or running uninstall (I search and destroy old "limew" files and folders for a complete uninstall), maybe trash the old incomplete folder, when LW seems to misbehave.

Platform/machine/app info can help attract better answers.

Cheers

hey stief,

are they answering you via Pro? Not me.

Even if they hate my honesty, I still have paid them several times for 6 month renewals, BTW.

Hi clueless--I haven't even bothered to try for pro support; figure it's probably a waste of time.

Any luck with connecting? Just noticed your post over on the Acq boards (.82 seemed to work OK for me a few days ago, but trying LW 2.9.5 today). Read a hint somewhere about killing older hosts helped searches/finding alternates, but you'd have to find some to connect to first.

Glad to hear your uploads work well. Other than a few partial uploads, poor results here uploading (haven't spent much time on this yet).

I am surprised that today LW is downloading from Shareaza 1.8.2.0 hosts with only Acq 0.82 Ultrapeers listed in my connections pane. Go figure. At least this tells you some Acq .82's are connecting. So far downloads that start from older LW clients just choke pretty quickly. I'm waiting to see which clients can complete downloads.

Well, just rambling. Cheers, and enjoy the spring.

hey hoser stief : ;o)

I am connecting to 5 ultrapeer hosts, Acq 0.82 for an hour, LW 2.6.3 for an hour, LW 2.8.6 for 48 minutes, Acq 0.802 for 17mins, and LW 2.8.6 for 17 minutes.

Do you think I should try disconnecting them to see if others pop up? Haven't messed with that. Maybe that's why I keep connecting to the same hosts with the same results.

I'll play around and see what happens.

DOH! I think I disconnected some good ones. The Acqs were replaced by different LWs but with lots less files, and pretty much same results, only less of them.

Hmmm. I know that after some hosts disconnect, I need to search again a few times over the space of an hour to build up the results. I think the new term is "alternate locations," but I'm not sure when they are refreshed, where they are stored, or what their 1/2 life is . . . or if this is just in flux while the version changes are going on.

The new beta (2.9.5) reports the number of "Valid Alternate Locations" via tooltip info in the downloads pane, but I can't tell yet whether dropping a host loses the locations found. Trap_jaw wrote once that downloads can continue with no hosts connected (like on startup), so perhaps when the searches are too sparse, trying to connect to some new ultrapeers will work and not affect current downloads.

Ahhh . . . the speculations are endless. Which client/version are you trying today?

Alternate locations are simply other places on the network that may have the same file you're looking for. The stat in the library (Locations) reports the number of alternate locations you know about for files you are sharing. When you attempt to download a file from a remote host, the host will inform you of other places on the network that also have the file. These will be considered 'valid' locations. Hosts may be removed from the valid locations if you attempt to connect to them and they aren't online or report that they do not have the file you're looking for. That's basically it. The connections shown in your connections tab have absolutely nothing to do with alternate locations.

Hi Sam--thanks for the info.

the tooltip stats in the downloads pane are being read from/stored . . . ? (the Library/Incomplete/Locations column shows blank, but works in Library/Shared).

Thanks to you and the team for the vendor column in the downloads pane. Too, I'm sort of glad to see the end of the requery message, and the spinning lime when searching (I still use the reappearance of the lime as a yellow/green light for a manual Repeat Search). Interested in any other notes about 2.9.5?

So you work like a law intern--lots of hours, even on weekends. Tsk, tsk! No answer expected, but any appreciated. Cheers.

stief:

I'm still using Acquisition until I hear LW stabilizes better. I've yet to have a version of Acq unexpectedly quit, and I run it for days on end.
I miss some of the LW features, but Acq is a lot less frustrating to use.
