![]() Hi to the OSX experts I have an eMac and have just migrated from 9.2 to OS 10.1.5 on the same machine. While in 9.2, I had slow downloading and achieved roughly a 5% success rate. Uploading was significantly better. About 30% of uploads were successful and at speeds I could only dream about. However, now that I have made the change, uploads have all but disappeared to about 1% successful at a snail's pace (1/2 kb/s). Downloading is about the same with speeds around 4kb/s. I have been in OSX for five days and have received seven abusive chat messages complaining about their failure to obtain any of my 1,000 plus files. I can understand their frustration. I am not behind a router. I have an Aztech ADSL and an unlimited 512 account. I have been into System Preferences and turned on File Sharing and FTP Access. LW preferences are at maximum for uploads at 20 slots min and max (although I have never seen more than eight at work at any one time). All to no avail. So, please advise what to do next so that I can give as well as take. Thanks David |

![]() Thanks for all the help guys! But, as you knew I would, I have worked it out. So, for the benefit of all those who follow in my footsteps, let me tell you about the partitioning in this stupid machine. Appletalk can be turned on and work within OS9.2 and the Classic mode, but it will not seep through the partition into OSX. And, guess what. If Appletalk is not separately turned on in OSX, uploading dies. Now all I have to do is to work out how to stop the machine from freezing up (and so dropping downloads) and to identify why LW has a tendency to die in OSX (but not OS9.2) while the machine is sleeping. I still ike the idea of being able to share 24 hours a day. So keep your help flowing. It really is appreciated. |

![]() I would turn OFF File and FTP sharing. Those things slow down your computer and you don't need them to use LimeWire anyways. I would also disable chat, since there is never any reason to send abusive messages to a host you are downloading from. ![]() With regards to some of the other issues - I HIGHLY recommend updating to Jaguar (10.2.x) if at all possible. I can't imagine what AppleTalk would have to do with keeping the LimeWire connection going. I think the Jaguar update addressed the issue of lost network connections when the machine goes to sleep. Have you looked at the settings in the Energy Saver System Preferences? I believe you can set your machine to never sleep, but use a separate monitor display to just make the monitor go blank. Don't run a screen saver since that chews up cycles also. But the eMac is a G4 and should be able to fly through it. Hope this helps. blue |
