These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. currupt files Have latest version MacOS 10.2.4 and jusyt downloaded Limewire 2.9.7 . In previous version I would get a message stating "currupt file" 50% of the time upon completion of a download. On this latest version I get the "currupt file" message 99% of the time. Upon last try a window appeared when exiting the program stating there was a bug and it displayed a "technical report" that it asked me to copy and send to limewire however it would not copy when I clicked on the copy button. This "tech info bug" window has not appeared since. I still can't download anything. I've tryed deinstalling and reinstalling but the problem persists. The older version was worth keeping__ at least it worked 50% of the time for me. I have high speed cable and as far as I know everything is the latest but I'm totally new to computers so............ Help!! Please! |

The latest version is 2.9.8 (probably another will be out soon). If I have a corrupt file, I delete the incompletes in the Library pane, and if that doesn't help and no downloads seem to be working, I quit limewire and trash everything in the incomplete folder, including the downloads.dat file. I haven't had a problem copying the error message, but did occasionally read of otherwith a similar note. I select all in the message, use cmd-c, and then mail it. Did you try for a clean install, including the preference files? (I search and destroy everything "limew" --just in case). Just a thought--keep a eye on the vendor/version of the files. I'm not seeing many corrupts, but the few I see seem to start from older clients. Incompatibility issue? Cheers |

When I have a corrupted file, first thing I try is, if it works anyway. Then I decide whether to keep it or not. Music and video files have a certain error tolerance.

currupt files Thank-you STIEF for your reply. Yes it is 2.9.8 that I downloaded and not 2.9.7 A typo error on my part. As you suggested I thrashed everything that had anything to do with Limewire including the "preferences file"__I think that was the key. I also thrashed the download that I kept in the download folder and downloaded Limewire again from the site. Anyways, I'm now getting results and the currupt file window is a rare occurence. Thanks again!! |

currupt files I triedl launching files that were designated as "currupt" but they never launch for me. Although I'm now having more success with Limewire I'm having considerably far better success with "acquisition". The speed and success rate on my Mac. is 80% better than Limewire. Are their any other similar programs that work as good or better than Limewire/Acquisitions that I can be made aware of. I'm a completely new computer user but learning quickly. Thanks again for the feedback . |

Thanks for the update bigbear. The work LW and Acq do is worth supporting on OSX, but I haven't tried Phex yet. All three are Java based. Drumbeat and Myster have also been mentioned, but I haven't tried them for quite a while. Don't know of any other legitimate clients (heard of some others, but they didn't sound legitimate). You've started with the best, but they are far from complete. btw, the engine that runs LW is adapted for Acq, so although Acq feels more elegant on OSX (it only works on Jag), mostly they are the same when it comes to the actual "driving." When Acq seems to lag, try LW, but if you see an 80% difference, you aren't seeing a difference between the two. You are probably seeing the way the Gnutella network changes from moment to moment or the files you were sharing happened to ready and willing. Don't get sucked into judging one against the other--just enjoy and support both. |

currupt files You got the word right to describe "acquisition"____elegant. I agree with you, and totally support both programs, and "bounce" from one to another. Simply put though, my sucess rate for "downloads" is litterally 80% better on "aquisition", and thus I'm prone to "stear" towards it for that very reason. Perhaps I'm not configured right with "limewire" as now I'm not getting the "currupt file" window I'm certainly experiencing alot of "incomplete" files. But in all honesty, as a completely "new" computer user I'm so ever thankful for these "programs" to exist. I've created a wonderful collection of music that is shared by all. Thankyou!! |

if 80%, you're right about the settings. Acq sets "force IP" by default--you have to set it manually in LW (Preferences->Advanced), and that can make a big difference. Search for "force IP" in these forums for more details, or post back with how you connect to the internet. Cheers |
