Default downloading movie clips

Whenever I download a movie clip & try to launch it I get the message "could not launch because a software component needed by the movie could not be found". How do I get around this?

VLC (Video Lan Client) media player plays many formats that quicktime doesn't. You can get it at www.videolan.org

Ok I downloaded the VLC, now how do I get a downloaded movie to play thru it? It keeps trying to play thru my quicktime player as a default.

You should really keep QT as your default player, but you can find a movie and select show info from the file toolbar. There choose open with application and select VLC. If you want VLC to play all your movies choose change all. Another way to do it is to open up VLC and choose open file from the file toolbar, then select the movie.
