Red face Tried it All - Still can't play or download to iTunes

First let me preface by saying that I'm a bit slow on the uptake (new w/Mac & LW).

With that being said, I've read TONS of these threads trying to determine why I can't 1). play downloaded MP3s (either via LW or iTunes) AND 2). can't transfer downloaded MP3s to iTunes.

Interestingly enough, I was able to do this prior to upgrading to Pro.

I've done the afore suggested (dragging the files, openine Add to Library), etc.
Ive also clicked on the Launch button (which just moves me to the iTunes window with no visible actions taking place).

There's got to be an easy solution - any takers with an immense amount of patience to help guide me to nirvanna? I know mine is SHOT.

Much thanks in advance.

K.

What happens when you double click on an mp3 file?

Thanks for taking a stab, Clueless.

When I dbl click on an MP3 w/i LW, the iTunes window moves to the front. But that's it. Nada. Nothing. Zero. Zilch.

I can obviously dlb click on MP3s in my iTunes and they play just fine.

I can't find the downloaded files in my HD anywhere...

Inside your LimeWire folder, you should have a Shared folder. Have you looked inside of it yet?

Yep - they're all there.

No problems downloading, I just can't play them or move them from the Shared file to iTunes.

Now I'm a bit confused, sorry. Didn't you just say you couldn't find them anywhere on your HD?

They're in my "Shared" file in LimeWire.

When I go to iTunes, Add to Library, I can't find the files anywhere.

Am I making sense? I know I'm close. Thanks for your help!

Okay, for now I'll assume that you clicked on the Library in the left pane of iTunes, typed in the name of the mp3 file in the search box in the upper right corner of iTunes, and got zippo.

Again assuming, you are using OS 10.x and either iTunes 3 or 4, so we are on the same page.

Go back to the Shared folder, highlight one of your new unplayable mp3 files by clicking once on it, and then hit the Apple (command) key and the i key. It should open a 'get info' window. One of the things it should tell you is where the file is located, and whether it is the original or the alias.

I'll stop there for the moment for your input.

I am running iTunes 4, and have OSX. But, I noticed when launching LW, it opens 9.2??

I tried highlighting an MP3 in LW, and then the apple+"i" keys....nothing happens.

Did you install LimeWire while running 9.2? Sounds like you are running LimeWire in Classic mode (9.2). Not good.

If so, is your HD partitioned, or are OS 9 and 10 on the same partition/drive? (That's the way Apple shipped them out before dropping OS 9 on the newer computers).

If you can see an mp3 icon in your Shared folder, and not in the LimeWire window, (the path is HD>Applications>LimeWire>Shared), you should be able to do a command + i on any of those files to get info on them.

Now, if you have both OS 9 and 10 on the same partition, it may get confusing. I have my OS's on separate partitions, for simplicity and other technical reasons. If that is the case, somebody with your setup may have to weigh in to help wade through this.

Ideally, while booted into OS 10, you would use your Safari or Internet Explorer to go to your Pro download page and download the version for OS 10. Then, you'd want to install it so that you can avoid that Classic mess.

Is this making any sense to you?
