Default crashes

I'm running Limewire on a Mac G4 400 mhz w OS 10.2.6. I try to leave my connection open in orer to share my files but after 10-15 minutres Limewire crashes. The only way I can reconnect to the internet is to unplug my modem, plug it back in and wait about five minutes. I've spent about an hour on the phone with tech support with my ISP and believe the problem does not involve my modem but is a conflict with OS X and LW. Anyone else have this problem. More to the point does anyone have a SOLUTION?

I had the same problem, altho not as extreme. I was running X.2.6 and LW 2.9.11. It would always crash, although it wouldn't disrupt my internet connection. I dled the recent beta 3.0.1, and it seems to fix the problem.

I do believe I've found an answer, or least a way around the problem that works for me. I restarted in Mac. 9.2.2, reinstalled an older version of LW Pro (1.7.9), restarted in OS 10.2.6 and launched Classic mode. I then opened the older version of LW in Classic. I've been only using it a few hours now but it seems MUCH more stable. No crashes yet and I was getting a crash every 10 minutes or so before. I hope this helps someone.

For future record, the definitive fix for Mas OS X crashes is here:

http://baghira.han.de/~jum/

Download Jum's version of Limewire there, and use that instead. No crashes, better performance, less use of CPU and memory. What more can I ask for?

If the other suggestions didn't work for you, watch your connections pane when you lose internet connections. If LW tries to run as an Ultrapeer and suddenly all connections are lost, the only workaround I currently know is to check "Disable Ultrapeer" in the speed section of the preferences.

I'm still trying to figure out why this happens for some but not all users. Sometimes others on my LAN were running forced IP gnutella clients like LW and Acquisition. Careful port mapping helped here somewhat (assigning and mapping a different port to each machine). Are you connected directly to the internet with the OSX System Preferences->sharing->firewall settings that allow gnutella?

Disabling ultrapeer does indeed help. I just did some more testing, and the major bug that still causes a JVM 1.4.1 crash appears much more likely with the many threads that ultrapeer mode does create.

jum, that makes sense, and corroborates my own experience. Thanks.
