Default OSX 10.2.6 combo update affecting 4th party Apps?

I know this probably falls under" if it works don't fix it" however, some new apps require OSX 10.2.6 or greater.

I am wondering how the new combo update might affect certain "4th PARTY" downloaded apps.
Especially those Applese one's????
I am currently running 10.2 Jaquar and everthing is working rather well.

I'm worried about BLUE MEANIES messing up the apps
I already do have running.
You can't get an update CD and MUST go online
to download the update.
I suppose my greatest worry is that there might be
some kind of serial number recognition scanners working
NASTY TERRIBLE THINGS when you access the new update online.

I also can't use some of my OS 9 apps in Classic mode
and the new OS update might fix that problem.

If anyone knows for certain that it's safe to go online
and download the new OS update,
Please let me know.
