Connecting Problems HELP I am not able to get LW to connect. I am new to Mac OS X 10.2.6, but old to Mac Classic. I just changed everything over to OS X and I am trying to get LW to connect. I have some of the post here and still can not get anything to work. I am a home user, using DSL with a router. I do not know anything about the new Firewall, Network & Sharring Settings. What are the LW, Firewall, Networking and Sharring settings for LW to work. Thank you in advanced. |
Hi project You should be able to connect even without all the other settings if you were able to connect through OS9. For the OSX firewall, you'll find the the "Gnutella/Limewire Port (6346)" preset shows up in a drop-list when you click the "new" button in Finder->Apple Menu->System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall. For the router, you'll have to find its documentation (probably online): Look for a setting that allows your LW port to be "Forwarded" or "Mapped" to the address of your computer (internal IP). This can get complicated depending on how your router identifies your computer. If you can't find the documentation, post back with the model/version and maybe someone will be familiar with it. The LW Preferences (Limewire->Options->Advanced->Port) should show 6346--it's the default--and the Firewalls setting should match. Check the "Force IP" and you should be good to go. Hope that helps you get connected quickly. Do post back to help others. Cheers |
Still not working I tried and still not working Let me tell you my settings and see if anyone can find the problem LW= Advanced>Firewall Force IP (checked), Address (0.0.0.0) Port (6346) Network= FTP Proxy (not checked) Port (6346) Use Passive FTP (checked) Sharing>Services= FTP Access (not checked) Sharing>Firewall= Gntella/Limewire (6434) (checked) {and thanks for that one} Router= Linksys, Model ? DSL= internet connection works good. |

You'll need the model number ; http://www.linksys.com/faqs/supcount...lt.asp?fqid=38 shows a sample of port forwarding, and should get you started working this part out (it's a pain: the stuff assumes you are a windows user). |
I've Got it I thank you for your help, that was not the problem. But thank you for helping me config my settings correctly. O' yes selecting Gntella/Limewire (6346) I did not have, so thank you very much on that one. OK every one this is the fix and how I got it. I as I said, I am reloading ALL of my software for scratch (clean upgrade). I could not get LW to work I tried everything everyone said to try NOTHING. So, I check what I new worked. I open classic for the first time and down loaded LW 3.4.7 and it works with no problem. I restared in OS X, checked all of my settings and still nothing. Just for fun I down loaded the new version LW 3.4.7 Now this is the best part. I just bought Ten for X from Aladdin Systems and paid $50. In that I got LW 2.5.5A Pro. I did not upgrade to 3.4.7 Pro, because I just bought it. Ok, I have downloaded the new version and checked my settings and guess what happed. THE F..KING THING WORKS. If anyone is having this connection problem and has the same version I did, try upgrading (the free one) and see if it works. If any one is intrested, my settings are. Firewall is on Gnutella/Limewire (6346) is selected in the firewall tab. Force IP is on in LW. That's it, I have been working on this thing for hours and all it was, was a bad version from Aladdin. Please replay if this makes any sence to anyone or was this just luck |
Good to hear--makes sense. Thanks for letting us know about the bizarre Ten-for-X! (might be worth checking the versions on the other apps from Alladin and letting them know). Congrats on finding the problem. Cheers |
