Long term attentiveness
 

i am running 3.4.4 on 10.2.6 and it keeps shutting down (within hours of starting).

both HD and system are set for never sleep.

i hate leaving my system on if i nor others will bennifit.

1)how many files are you sharing? Size of the share? (too many could cause memory and threads problems)

2)are you behind a router? (if yes too many connections could cause it to cut the connection and possibly make Lw crash)

3)are you an ultrapeer? (being an ultrapeer could increase chances of getting problems on your 'puter)

4)are you using the LW from limewire.com? (if you are using the Jum's java 1.4 builds, I've found it crashes too much for me, so I'm using the basic .com version)

5)you could always post here the crash logs in the console in the utilities folder.

I'm no programmer but it seems it takes too much threads (too much memory, maybe 'cause your sharing too much files). I would do 2 things:
Send the LW crash report to bugs@limewire.org (or .com?) and share less non useful stuff (stuff that is widespread on the network, keep what is "rare").

then I think this is the Apple JVM bug Jens-Ewe was told by Apple that has been fixed in Panther. They didn't tell him if it would be fixed in Jaguar.

The only way I've found around it so far is to shutdown long enough to clear the memory, and make LW (it happens to me in either the regular or jum builds) the first app to open.

btw et voilà, yesterday the LWPRo beta 3.5.1 ran fine for 8 hrs on a stock G4; I switched the connection, and it started crashing every ~1/2 hr. The G3 running jum205 and the dp version of Java had no trouble with the connection change and is still running today. Tomorrow might be the opposite, so it's not build vs regular here . . . just very irritating and unpredictable.

salut stief, the problem is that the jum build's gui is freezing every hour or two making lw to use 100% of the cpu of my imac g3 (the core still seems to upload stuff), while the basic version is up for days and uploading gigs of stuff at 13k/s....

It's beach ball time or if I'd have a sandy desktop it would be volley ball time....
There is no english equivalent, but: and life goes on is +/- similar.

Darn! Knew i shouldn't have said anything about the G3--just had a JVM crash while reading your reply Greg (only 109 threads; sharing 866 files), and it was fine for a week.

If you can find a better fix than the shutdown voodoo, please post back! I hope Apple doesn't go the MS route and use the bugs to market new OS software.

btw et voilà, I think I got the GUI freeze messing with the bug message or proxy prefs on the G4, but not using the dp java on the G3. I'll keep looking. Any more ideas?
