Angry Application downloads (sit compression)

Lately I have attempted to download some Mac OS X files and although the download seemingly goes without a hitch, when I click on the sit file to open it I get a message that the download is perhaps corrupt. In any event it won't open properly. I'm wondering if its because of OS X. This doesn't happen with musical MP3 files or photos. Any suggestions?

I'd be glad to send anyone the "sit" file which I have, unexpanded, if they would like to try opening it on their own computer. It's pretty large and rather than emailing it perhaps it would be better to tranfer it to a CD first.

It's possible that you don't have the latest version of Stuffit Expander (or whatever they call the freebie version now).

It's also possible that whoever stuffed the file didn't stuff it properly, or that somewhere along pottentially hundreds of transfers on LW, part of the file, during transfer became missing. If even a byte of data is missing from a stuffed file, Stuffit will be unable to expand it.

Can you attempt to download the file again from an alternate source if this is the case?

I have the paid version of Stuffit which works fine and opens most everything without a hitch. Also I've downloaded this same application from at least four sources always with the same result. Which leads me to believe that the company originating this application, which is an expensive one, has included some coding which makes it impossible to copy. I was particularly looking for one to use on my eMac - I already have a working copy on my PC. Guess I'll just use the PC version for now. Thanks.
