File Refuses to Delete
 

I am on a Mac, OS X (obviously) .2.6, I have been running the latest version of limewire, which I believe is 3.4.4. About a week ago, I must have tried to download a file, it went into the transfers window (it was a T-0-0-*filename* type of name, though, which I believed was temp...I don't remember trying to download any temp files from anyone). No one else has access to my computer.

The problem is the file won't disappear. I have deleted it multiple times, both from the Limewire window, the hard file itself inside the incomplete folder, and from the terminal window. When I try to delete it as it is, it gives me some junk about not being able to find it (in the terminal), because the name is strange. I go into the folder, rename the file, delete it just fine, empty the trash, etc. And then the next time I open Limewire, there it is again, still not connected, still not downloading. Sitting there happily at 0.0 k.

I trashed the cache and restarted, nothing changed. So I deleted all Limewire files, prefs, etc. And restarted, downloaded the beta version (5.2, I think) and installed. And there it was again. This file refuses to go away. I have run a virus scan and Macaffee says I have no trojans, no viruses, etc.

Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I'm really getting frustrated and have expended all of my knowledge...

Thanks for the detailed information. It'll definitely help with trying to figure out what's causing this error.

Just to be clear, you're saying that in the download area (the place underneath the search results that lists the files you're currently downloading), the filename of the download is listed as "T-#-#-name"? And, when you try to delete the file from the incomplete folder (or more precisely, rename it and then delete it), it reappears the next time you start LimeWire?

Off the top of my head, I'd say to make sure LimeWire is closed, then delete the incomplete folder entirely. The next time LimeWire starts up it will recreate the folder. This will force LimeWire to forget any information about what it was downloading. To be extra careful, search your disk for a file named "downloads.dat" and "downloads.bak" and delete any files that you find and are in a folder called "Incomplete".

Absolutely, yes, and I did those things, too. Nothing worked. So...what I'm doing now is... running a disk scan on my computer to clear up any problems messed up files might have caused, and now I'm downloading the non beta version...3.4.4 again, I believe it is. Going to install that and see if it'll work.

junebug--you could also try setting up an new admin user in system preferences->accounts, just to confirm the problem is in your current user account.

School has been keeping me way too busy to even breathe. :)

I did what I said I was going to do above, re-deleted the whole thing and re-installed, this time a non betal, and it worked. So the whole thing only took me about a week. :)
