where r my files

help ive gone into preferences to direct my incoming downloads into a playlist on
itunes and this worked for a while but now its creating a file on the desk top and putting them there
no matter what i put in preferences it dosnt seem to want to go back into itunes
can anyone help me set up a feed into itunes?
