![]() Hiya, after the fall of Napster I kind of stayed away from all the filesharing stuff (yes it's been a while, I know). So now I am back, I got myself a copy of Limewire for my OS X, and I'm ready to share like a mofo. So my problem is that my Limewire can't seem to find anything. Don't get me wrong, I get results, but a seach for "nirvana" for example gives me ~10 results. Most of the time it's an incomplete file, or the host doesn't let m have it (not sure exactly what the system is onthe gnutella network, but I assume I'm connecting to someone right?). Songs are limited, and you can forget about video. I spent hours trying to find an actual film, all you people seem to have is pornography. uugh. To sum it up: my first impressions of this new peer-to-peer community have been very poor. I am ready and willing to admit I am an idiot and am doing something wrong here. Is there something I forgot to set up? I pretty much tried out all combinations of the settings in the preferences window. Anything else I should try? What really burn me up is that I'm sharing collection of 3085 songs, and people are having NO problem downloading them. Anyone who wants to lend a helpful bit of advice would be most appreciated. Thanks. |

![]() Hi Peter I'd help, but your situation doesn't make sense: you see plenty of completed uploads but can't get decent search results? The usual OSX connection problems (OSX firewall in System Preferences->Sharing->Firewall->New not opened to the Gnutella/Limewire network, router not mapping port 6346 to your computer) usually allow searches but not uploads. Look at Tools->Statistics->Advanced->Uploads to see more details on uploads than are shown in the Library Pane. If you are finding mostly porn, you might be connected to a spam servent and that is flooding your results. LW throttles searches at ~150 results. Control-click the IP number of spurious results and you'll get the option to block that host, and turn on the porn filter in the preferences. More specific searches should work better too. On OSX 10.2, LW 3.6.1Beta, and sharing 9K files as an Ultrapeer over a cable/NAT connection here, Nirvana returned 209 results very quickly. |
