![]() Okay.. after being on my upteenth page of posts reading the problems other people have incountered I'm left with nothing but more questions. I have a MacOSX 10.2.6 made sure my firewire port is allowing 6346. I have downloaded the newst version, didn't work, deleted it, downloaded an older version, deleted it. Downloaded the Pro version ( yes I paid and yes i'm regretting it ) and it gave me a link to a normal LW installer, that didn't work. I have gone to my system preferences and allowed for more sharing capabilities. But like everyone else posting about connections, i have the red light green light game. I've waited for over 2 hours for a connection to be established. I am at my wits end. I do, unfortunatly have an ethernet connection through my University. However, Kazaa, Morpheus, and other PC P2P's are still being used. Three of which are in the same room as my ethernet connection. Could it be that the University is singling out Gnutella and not going for the bigger sharewares? Please, I need real answers, not the " Go to File and Click Connect." I am way past frusterated. I appreciate anyone who could help me.. Thank you. |

![]() OK, I'm fairly new to the forum, but I've been using Limewire for a while now.. maybe I can help. You first problem may be in the firewall (firewire is highspeed data transfer bus). If you are having problems connecting, try to eliminate anything that could cause failure. Also, see if you have software firewall software and turn that off as well. Also, how fast is your internet connection? I used to have a modem and I seem to remember when selecting a type T1 or Better connection seems to overload the modem with too many messages (hence actual downloads were slower). You should set you speed to the appropriate setting, it will be the best for you. Hmm... I wonder if because of your Univ connection you should try to force an IP address, you are most certainly running from a static IP and maybe LW is having problems connecting to the Univ IP. Try figuring out when the Univ IP address is and force it... giving other users a better idea of how to connect to you. And if it is the Univ hardware/software that is blocking the port, then you may very well be out of luck. RegNitto |

![]() Okay. Since Yesterday, I have turned off my firewall completely.. found my IP address for my computer, switched from a built in ethernet connection to Internal Modem, and changed to a PPP provider which elimates my router. I forced an IP connection through my Apple>Preferences>Advanced>Firewall. AND STILL.. i cannot connect. I dont know if what i did helped or hurt. I don't even know if I'm on the right track or not. ( I've learned more about my computer in 6 hours then i have known about any computer in a lifetime.) How do i find out how fast my ethernet connection is? When I could download, it usually gave me about 2-5 minutes per song i downloaded. ( i don't know how to calculate that. ) And I don't know how to find my University's IP address or even if i have access to it. Your helping a lot.. and I'm not giving up yet.. just.......frusterated.... Let me know if you've got any other ideas. |

![]() What firewall hardware/software do you have? I have a Netware router and Norton's firewall with OSX firewall disabled. The router gives my mac a static IP (196.168.0.2) and I have forced my IP address. I found my IP address using a DSL speed checker website that was kind enough to tell me what it is. If you were downloading mp3's at 2-3 minutes, you're probably concidered at Cable/DSL user. It's about the same for me. You may want to check the apple website and get the latest update for OSX and Java. I'm now running OSX 10.2.8, Java 1.4.1, LW 3.5.8. On second thought... if the application is firing up, then it's probably not java. Something is screwy. |
