uploads, downloads are both mostly aborted Hello After using LW for some time now, I realize the network is rather flaky - no matter what settings I use, it is the same all day - and makes me feel like fishing with a needle instead of a hook: - Files are found all day, but no way to get it ("connecting" goes directly to "need more sources") - download-processes start and get aborted after a short while (mostly after 1-5% or 30-60% of the file-length) - downloads do not resume - aborted downloads are found after a new search, but aren't "hooked" (waiting n seconds) - files already on the list are found thru a new search but will not connect at all (not by manual "download" from search results, nor by clicking "retry") - Uploads are dead-slow (4-5K at best, although there's 60K available) - Uploads are aborted ("finished" after 2% completion etc.) I think the experience of those I want to share my files with get quite the same experience than I do: many, many attempts, very few (2-5% or so) successful downloads, and a certain "sluggishness"... And some tips: - It is most important to set your "patience" preference to "stoic" or "stiff upper lip", as it is to set "keep partial downloads" to "biblical"... - LW needs to be babysitted - closely observe the downloads (if there are...) and immediately click retry if one loses connection - you've got much more chances that the DL will resume than just waiting the 59'' ... - Do not try to download all 98 files at once - it'll have the downloads jumping through them, leaving you with nothing (or 98 partial-downloads and little chances to accomplish) - go after them one by one or in little groups - Sometimes, it is much more effective just to quit and relaunch LW and let it go thru the list by itself, I even had some files completed when everything else had failed for many hours in a row (but let your friends finish downloading the items your share, if they can) ... (I use LW 3.6.2jum219 on a G4 867/OSX 10.2.8, and a DSL-connection) |
