What happened? Ok, so I have been using Limewire for quite some time now, and havent had any problems with it. I've been using Limewire version 3.4.7 because that is the latest version that I got to work on my computer.. for some reason the latest version AND the beta version don't work on my machine.. I have a G4 powermac, running OS X (10.2.8) and have Java 1.4.1. The version 3.4.7 has always worked well for me until last night when I recieved the following error: STARTUP ERROR LimeWire version 3.4.7Java version 1.3.1 from Apple Computer, Inc. I have already tried to do a complete uninstall of Limewire, also getting rid of all preferences on my machine. Then I would repair disk permissions, and restart my computer and then try to reinstall it. I would still get this startup error whenever I would try to run Limewire. What can I do? I would like to use the newer version as well, but for some reason it doesn't run, and it always "unexpectedly quits" right after it starts up. I don't know why it isn't working - i dont know whats going on... especially since version 3.4.7. has always worked fine until now.. Please send me any information and help you can, because Limewire has always been a great program for me, and I would hate to have to try to find another program to use that would work with my computer. Thanks for your time! |
Did you by chance use Software Update to update to the latest version of Quicktime/iTunes/etc.. very recently? |
Yes, I did... why do you think that is the reason for these problems? Why would iTunes and Quicktime cause Limewire to stop functioning? Thanks for your help. |
Supposedly the java files included with the newer quicktime are not backwards compatable with previous releases. I'm not positive if this is what caused your problem (as I've updated just fine on my mac), but it could be related. Is there a reason you haven't updated to the latest Java? It should be listed in Software Update as a Java upgrade. I recommend getting it, it'll greatly improve LimeWire's speed as well as allow you to use a few new features in the upcoming versions. |
yea i did update it from software update... it shows it listed under "installed updates" and says it was installed.. is there another way i can check it to see if it is installed on my machine? is there a way to reinstall it? |
