Sometimes a high numbered port can avoid the simple controls that might be on the default ports like 6346. It's a pain setting the router, firewall and LW prefs for a port like, say, 23456, but it works for my 1mbps cable connection. Tech support--who weren't informed of the controls the webmasters were using--had to change the cablemodem several times when I could show I was getting packet loss (as reported in Network Utility pings to the ISP server).
