These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures. 3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum. 4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks. 5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement. 6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem. 7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online. 10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection. 12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban. 13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts. 14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. 15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues. Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis. Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community. |

Problems With Panther? Look Here. [EDIT -- NEW INFORMATION] 3.6.14, the last attempt of the 3.6 series in working around the Java problems Apple has introduced in Panther, is now released. This will hopefully once and for all work. [END EDIT] Many users have reported problems with running LimeWire after upgrading to Panther (10.3). Unfortunately, these problems are beyond our control. Apple is investigating what caused the problems and will hopefully release a fix soon. Meanwhile, users can use this thread to post information about what they have done to resolve or learn more about the situation. Sincerely, The LimeWire Team Last edited by sberlin; November 6th, 2003 at 11:39 AM. |

Some users have suggested the following workaround. As always, use caution while following the below advice. These steps are not tested and not supported by LimeWire. --- If you're a user having problems due to java (type "java -version" at a terminal prompt and it will say something about "HotSpot not at correct virtual address. Sharing disabled" on the first line), follow the instructions to fix java at topic "Discussions > Mac OS X > Mac OS X v10.3 Panther > Installation and Setup > Java 1.41 does not run after 10.3 upgrade" on the apple.com discussion boards. Specifically, go to a terminal prompt and type "sudo mv /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVMOld.framework" (BE CAREFUL! the only spaces in this command are after "sudo", "mv", and "...JavaVM.framework") and enter the root user password when prompted. Now reinstall Panther (only required base files and the BSD subsystem necessary) and Limewire (and the rest of your Java 1.4.1 apps) should work perfectly. |

If someone who is having these problems with Panther could please email me at sberlin@limepeer.com , I have some solutions I would like to test. We (fortunately?) do not have any corrupted Panther boxes in our office, so we cannot test it here. Thanks, Sam |

One of the Apple engineers has written the following about the problems. ---- All, We are aware of the QTJ + Panther Upgrade issue as it concerns Java, and will be providing steps to alleviate and prevent the problem shortly. We are still in the process of identifying every install configuration that is a problem, as well as possible solutions. Once that is done, we will make all the relevant information available, via the http://developer.apple.com/java/ site. Please keep an eye on http://developer.apple.com/java/ for a statement on the problem described, who is affected, and what they will need to do. md ---------------------------------------------------------------- Matt Drance Java Engineer Apple Worldwide Developer Technical Support dts@apple.com |

I spoke with Apple last night and they were empahtic about the fact that they ARE NOT working on a fix for the Panther 10.3 problem. They regaurd LimeWire as an illegal operation and as such didn't want me to mention its name while I was talking with them. They are, of course, overreacting, but nonetheless, they are not working on a fix. This would also compete with their iTunes platform, so their reluctance to offer any sort of fix seems to make sense. Moreover, LimeWire double charged me for my Pro account and now they are telling me that my account has been cancelled. I would still like to run Pro and would like to try version 3.6.11. Will someone get back to me and let me know what is going on with my account? |

plolipop, as another loyal Mac (and .Mac) user, I think those "Apple" comments are misleading. LW is legitimate. Please direct your "Apple" source to the letter posted, or have the person direct users like myself who have no affiliation with LimeWire to official Apple policy about LimeWire. |

The lack of fix from Apple is rather strange. It is not just LimeWire that they broke, but EVERY SINGLE java application. LimeWire is but one (although the most used) Java application for OSX. |

LimeWire 3.6.12 has been released. The installer for this version includes a workaround for the bug with Panther. We believe this will solve the problems people have been experiencing. PLEASE let us know whether this fix works or does not work. You are welcome to post here or email me directly at sberlin@limepeer.com . Thank you, Sam |

FYI, we have found the following TechNote that Apple has released with regards to their faulty Java upgrade. You can view it at: http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2099.html We are still investigating a workaround, check back here shortly for news of a new LimeWire version that should contain a working workaround. Thanks, Sam |
