That's odd. Does your receipts folder look like this? Is there anything missing from this list?:
LimeWire Bounces In Dock and Disappears? Look Here!-java-1.5-receipts.gif

What type of mac are you using? Is it an intel mac?
Did you repair permissions after installing Java? Did you remove anything from the receipts folder & if yes, which file(s)?

I also had basic LW for one year with no problems. After having to reinstall and archive following an update, I can no longer open LW. It bounces in the dock and then disappears. I have a year old ibook G4 running on Tiger OSX. What should I do to correct this?

Hi,
I'm on tiger, I put the install cd, followed the instructions, double click on BSD.PKG and a window warns me that "the destination folder "package" is on a locked volume. Please select another destination". What can I do?
Thanks for help.

Did you start up using the install disk? If not, reboot whilst holding down C key, else, go to the system preferences, startup volume & change to install disk. If you did do this, then try installing after starting up normally, not from the install disk. Make sure you have administration permissions to install. Log in under an admin account.

This will happen if you first installed 10.0, then upgraded to 10.2 without installing some specific packages. We are in the process of revising our installer to fix this (and some other) issues. In the meantime, you can continue running LimeWire one of two ways.

The best way, if you still have the OS X installation CDs is to pop the first CD in and navigate to:
Mac OS X Install Disc 1 -> System -> Installation -> Packages -> BSD.pkg
and double-click to install that package.

Alternatively, you can go to /Applications/LimeWire, ctrl-click on the LimeWire application, choose 'Show Package Contents', open on the 'Contents' folders, ctrl-click on the 'Info.plist' file, choose 'Open With', choose 'Other', scroll down on the right and choose 'TextEdit". Within TextEdit, find the line that reads "<string>prelude</string>" and change it to "<string>LimeWire</string>". Save the file, close TextEdit.

After you've done either procedure, LimeWire should open as normal. We'll be releasing a new installer soon so that all this isn't necessary if the user didn't have BSD installed, but for the existing installations these steps are required.

Thanks,
Sam
Launcher Version 0.1. The 'Info.plist' file originaly read "<string>LimeWire.icon</string>" & suffered from bouncing icon syndrome. Revised it to read "<string>LimeWire</string>" but still N.G. Suggestions?

1. Repair permissions after a SAFE Reboot, then reboot normally & try again.
2. If still problems, reinstall the "Offline" Standalone Java 1.5 from apple site. ie: Do not use the apple updater online installation.

This issue is generally Java related.

Thanks for your quick response.

Performed Safe Reboot, then repaired permissions using 'Mac OS X Install Disk 1'. could not find a Java download labled 'Standalone Java 1.5' or any 'Standalone'. Found 'J2SE 5.0 Release 4 (Intel)' at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...ase4intel.html

Downloaded J2SE50Release3.pkg from that URL. But is has a generic icon. Get Info shows 'Open with Installer.app' as expected. Double clicked it but it pops up only momentarily in the dock. LW installer still does the same. Search finds ALL the pkg items on the HD now also show the generic icon. Can't say when that happened. May be unrelated.

I fear that there is another Java labled Standa**** that I did not find.
What now?

That is the Standalone version or Offline installer version. It just means you install from your computer & not over the internet. It tends to be a lot safer, especially for Java.

You could see if this version works: LimeWire cvs builds (4.13.4jum489) but note, that CVS version has not been updated in over a month.

Although I think with later osx 10.4 updates it makes java 1.5 the default for all programs, perhaps see this just in case: Setting up Java 1.5
