LimeWire Bounces In Dock and Disappears? Look Here! [EDIT] 3.6.15 is live and will automatically take care of these situations for you. [END EDIT] This will happen if you first installed 10.0, then upgraded to 10.2 without installing some specific packages. We are in the process of revising our installer to fix this (and some other) issues. In the meantime, you can continue running LimeWire one of two ways. The best way, if you still have the OS X installation CDs is to pop the first CD in and navigate to: Mac OS X Install Disc 1 -> System -> Installation -> Packages -> BSD.pkg and double-click to install that package. Alternatively, you can go to /Applications/LimeWire, ctrl-click on the LimeWire application, choose 'Show Package Contents', open on the 'Contents' folders, ctrl-click on the 'Info.plist' file, choose 'Open With', choose 'Other', scroll down on the right and choose 'TextEdit". Within TextEdit, find the line that reads "<string>prelude</string>" and change it to "<string>LimeWire</string>". Save the file, close TextEdit. After you've done either procedure, LimeWire should open as normal. We'll be releasing a new installer soon so that all this isn't necessary if the user didn't have BSD installed, but for the existing installations these steps are required. Thanks, Sam |
Followed your instructions, still doesn't work I followed your instructions and LimeWire still won't launch. It just bounces in the dock and then nothing happens. First I installed the BSD package and that didn't fix it. Then I altered the line in the Info file and that didn't fix it either. I'm running Panther on 1.5Ghz Powerbook. Please help. Thanks! |
Hi djscoobyd, Could you please open the 'Console' program (found by going to Applications -> Utilities -> Console), try running LimeWire again, and paste back here what is reported in the Console? Thanks, Sam |
Here is what it says: [JavaAppLauncher Error] FindClass() failed for class apple/launcher/LaunchRunner: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no launcher in java.library.path at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java :1344) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:744) at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(System.java:815) at apple.launcher.LaunchRunner.<clinit>(LaunchRunner. java:22) [JavaAppLauncher Error] CallStaticVoidMethod() threw an exception Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: apple.launcher.LaunchRunner at apple.launcher.JavaApplicationLauncher.launch(Java ApplicationLauncher.java:52) |
Hi again djscoobyd, You received this error with the latest installers (3.6.14 or 3.6.15)? To be honest, I have absolutely no clue what would cause this. It looks like a borked Java. Have you by chance updated Panther to 10.3.1? Thanks, Sam |
I just downloaded the LimeWire upgrade again off of CNET, so it's definitely 3.6.15 Still having the same problem. And my Panther is up to date. Version 10.3.1 |
Is anyone else experiencing problems similiar to this (with the same console log)? While I cannot be sure it will fix it, I recommend that you follow the steps Apple has outlined at http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2099.html to fix a faulty Java installation during a Panther upgrade. Sorry for the trouble, I'll continue looking to see if I find something that mentions this error. |
That fixed it! Anyone having the same problem should follow the instructions for reinstalling java on the apple site. Thanks for your help! |
Yeah... i went to the apple website thing my java is fine but limewire still doesn't work... and I did the thing you guys said before. I have no idea why, I installed limewire 3.6.14 and it worked but the new one is not working for me... |
Actually I managed to fix it with the alternate method (installing the package from the mac os x cd.) Thanks for the help! |
