Question Limewire files dissapeared

I was running 3.6.15 ok, changed my video card and motherboard battery, restarted G4 osx 10.2.8 and what the F... all my limewire files I was downloading disappeared ? i had to goto the incomplete folder and resume them all, but a bunch of files which were almost finished do not show up in the library list anymore, they are all in the incomplete folder but dont show up in limewire ? Is my .dat file corrupted and can I fix it, all the files have the T-xxxxxxxx number in front of them while viewing it through OS x folder view, and while in limewire some are highlighted in red in the Limewire incomplete menu.

help, lots of incomplete large files i want to get working again.......

your .dat file may indeed be corrupt I believe.

There should be a .bak file, which is the backup file of the .dat file. Try backing up your .dat file and your .bak and replacing the .bak with the .dat and see what happens.

However, I have a feeling it won't work b/c the .bak probably got saved over after your restart.

Question

Is there any way to edit the .dat file and add the missing downloads, my .dat and .bak files have already been replaced before the early monday AM corruption. What is in this file and can I use an editor or file editor ?

I'll be honest when I say I don't know.

Perhaps someone else will read this thread and be able to answer.

I opened the dat file in BB edit a Html editor and its all there, it could be possible to work on the damaged file but it looks like the dat file is slightly compiled or encoded, some jiberish characters I havent figured out. Here is a sample line of code

Thumbs down

My files dissapeard again after restart, I was running Limewire and did a valid OSX restart with the file menu, I let the mac quit limewire for me. And after the restart when I relaunched limewire, it was like I was a new user again, I had to reset-up all my prefs and folders etc. again, an oh yes all my current downloads were junk again, they were incomplete, I had to resume what was left in my incomplete folder again, now I have over 3 gigs of garbage in my incomplete folder, most of it doesnt show up in limewire anymore, I have opened the .dat file and of course its coded and there is no way to fix the damaged files

Why did this happen on a restart, anyone have a clue at all. All this wasted time and the files are dead. I have to erase the incomplete folder and start a new .dat file to clean up my hard drive!!!

biomac--You're the first I know of that links hardware changes with lost incompletes. There's no solution I've read of, but here are a couple of possibly related links.
This link is about problems after hardware changes (can't find a more recent one), so a search for 'firmware' here might lead somewhere useful.

folks on Acquisition forums have seen lost incompletes for months (especially large ones), but they haven't found a solution. Any chance you have some Acquisition prefs on the HD?

Perhaps he has old prefs that have been accidentally used as the new ones after restart.

Also, yes, check firmware on internal and external (especially external with Panther) drives.

Perhaps he has a problem with his .dat file not being saved correctly on a non-user initiated quit or his .bak is being written over his .dat b/c the LW thinks it quit unexpectantly b/c the user didn't initiate the quit.

Looking at your first post...

When you installed your video card and motehrboard battery, did you reset your CUDA switch?

Also, resetting your PRAM could help as well.
