can't search - nothing happens

using pro on OSx.2.8 - everything had been fine with free LW - with pro type in a target and press 'search' and nothing happens - no search tabs with the search item come up over the download area - it ignores the request

Are you connected?

It might be when you upgraded to pro your preferences were wiped and you lost your automatically connect option.
