Unhappy on again, off again

Using a G4 and running OS 10.1.5. Finally tried to make the swithc from OS 9 to OSX after having the system for 2 years only to find that I am unable to use Limewire. Downloaded the OSX pro version first and found that after about five minutes or less Limewire will no longer search, and I get message that it "appears my machine no longer has an internet connection." But I am still connected, only Limewire doesn't seem to notice. SO.....read after reading threads in this forum, downloaded the new version (3.6.15).....SAME PROBLEM.....SO.....read more threads and downloaded new pro-Beta version...Guess what....SAME PROBLEM.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

PS.
Have run Software Update, and it says there are new updates for my Mac.
