I solved the problem with the sh command in the terminal.

Ok, I've gotten the LimeWire installer to work in X, and this is how it's done.

First I'll assume that you left the file name the same, and that is "LimeWireMacOSX.sh" without the quotes, and capitalization is important! (remember that when in the Terminal). I'll also assume that the installer in on the desktop.

You may need to me the admin to do this, but I'm not sure.

Open up Terminal.

Type "cd ~/Desktop" (that's a tidle, just under the escape key). This will change the directory that terminal is currently focused on to the Desktop folder inside the current user's folder (the ~ = user's directory). Press return (obviously).

Now type "sh LimeWireMacOSX.sh" and hit return. It runs the file in a shell. You should soon see "Preparing to Install…" if all worked.

It will take a little while, but the Terminal will launch Java and then the installer will run in that. Follow the instructions and it's Done!

Once it's installed, make sure everything is located inside a sub-folder, maybe on your desktop. (Some OSX users are getting permission issues when things are in the new Applications folder). Then open a Terminal window, by launching Terminal from the Apps/Utilities folder. You now have a command line on your Mac. Don't panic - just find the blank-icon file called "LimeWire" in the installed folder and drag it onto your terminal window, then press return. This should automatically generate a pathname to tell the kernel where to launch Lime. It will take a minute or so, then you'll get a JAVA program that actually ran pretty well for me. You will have to do this everytime, I think, unless someone posts a way to make the LimeWire file self-launching. Takes more Unix-ese than I know.

To avoid having to launch Terminal prior to LimeWire, just "command I" the LimeWire file and associate it with Terminal

click onto the limewire file then press the button with the 'apple sign', hold down the button with the apple sign and press the button 'I'. that will prompt the information window (same as under os 9). choose programm from the dropdown, choose 'show all' form the next dropdown (after you have clicked to browse for the programm), choose the terminal from the utilities folder. finished.
