I'm getting the same problem. About 5-10 minutes into a download all the download speeds drop to 0kb/s and the status bar reads 'connecting'. Then a warning message appears about firewalls or internet connections.
I'm using the exact same settings as i always have done, it's just this latest version of Limewire that I have this problem with.

I am having a very similar problem; after running limewire for anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, my internet connection fails. I have checked my firewall and everything seems cool, I miss my old limewire! How do I fix this problem?

Ok answers those questions:

1)are you connected wireless?
if so what brand of wireless equipement are you using (the apple airport station is known to be buggy)? Are the latest firmware updates installed?

or

2)is your modem a usb one? (they are much more prone to lockup than ethernet ones) If so ask your ISP for an ethernet one, it works much better.

Bonne chance

No I am not connected wireless. I am connected with cable through ethernet. I notice that when i connect with limewire my activity light goes haywire, bit I dont know if thats normal. I really want to use my limewire but dont want to keep getting kicked off the net.

Default This Might Help!

Yeah,

LW freezes my Mac up quite a lot. 3 times today already...I don't get anything that tells me anything, but I can't do anything as everything is Frozen...I try to shutdown OPTION-APPLE-ESC to force quit and if that doesn't come up....
I shutdown the Mac by the Power Button.
When I reboot (50% of the time) I have NO Net connection. The best thing to do is DIS-CONNECT the power of the Cable modem for about five minutes. THEN plug the Cable modem back in...it should reset....Perhaps it takes five minutes or longer depending on your cable line speed. I usually use Safari and check Google to see if I'm connected again....good luck....

Its not that it freezes up my mac, it just kills my connection. I then unplug (like you said) but 30 seconds usually does the trick but then I have to restart my mac. This really blows! I'm afraid to use limewire and that sucks!

Default Yeah, I agree

I think LW freezes up my Mac...Not that my Mac freezes up LW. It mostly happens when I'm using LW. My connection is dropped. Once I select "resume" and nothing happens...well, (no menus work either)...I have shut down and reboot.

On XP, OS X and Linux a freeze of internet connection is mostly due to a poor hardwares: network card if the problem is on the computer, modem or router on the network side. You might want to seek for updates firmwares for those equipment if you can. If nothing does, and you really want to do P2Ping which is network hardware intensive, change the modem or router, that's about it.

On OS 9 users might also want to increase the memory allowed to LW to 80mb (ctl-i on the LW application icon).

Bonne chance

That's all well and good but this problem has only ever occurred since I started using the latest version of Limewire. I'm using the same modem I've had for the last 12 months and prior versions had no problems. Surely that suggests the problem is software based rather than hardware?
