Default .dmg file/message-disk contains no volumes Mac OSX can read

Hello,

I download a .dmg file (which is generally not a problem) using iMac w/ OS 10.1.5. Disk copy works and flashes it was successful, but, they I get the message box telling me "disk contains no volumes Mac OSX can read" 3 buttons at bottom Continue, initialize and eject. none of which help.

Can any of you help?

Thank You
Jody
