Default Where are my old downloads gone?

I went away from my iBook (OSX.3.4 800 MHZ), using Limewire 4.0.6 Pro for a few minutes and when I came back it had frozen . This has happened twice before with 4.0.5 and with 4.0.6. Since these crashes I had done a clean install of OSX and reinstalled Limewire again (without the files waiting to be downloaded, new prefs etc. ). Over the past week I have been downloading away and had a lot of new files waiting to be downloaded, when the crash happened again as I said. This is different however in that after force quitting Limewire and restarting it, my files waiting to be downladed are gone!! There is nothing in the Downloads pane. Where are they gone?
Also why is Limewire so slow in downloading these days? I checked with my ISP in case they had brought in protocols to slow down P2P sharing but they have not. Esp. since the 'upgrade' to 4 it is worse. I have tried two other clients in the last few days and they give me much faster downloads. I am reluctant to switch however since I have a Limewire T Shirt I have been using Limewire for two years and am really dissappointed with this latest incarnation of it and it does not seem to be worth paying for anymore.

I figure the speeds and all are slower because you haven't configured your LW for optimum performance.
As for the crashes, do you have the latest Java? run a software update and check it out.
I, for one, find the new version (well, actually 4.0.5) quite good and I still get the most of it with my dlds reaching top speed (I'm not bragging, just telling you that your slow speeds might just be a matter of configuration)

I forgot to tell you to also repair permissions after checking if you have the latest java.

Ahhhh. I also forgot (sorry for the continuous posts everyone!) that you can find the dlds under the Library tab in LW: just click Incompletes and look for the file that was dlding and click resume.
Now, if you can't find them there, then you're "hosed".

Yes, my software is up to date and permissions are repaired every night before Deja vu does a Backup. The incompletes are still there but, its defeats the purpose if I have to manually restart them all.
Actually, I have spent quiet a bit of time trying to "optimize" Limewire after going through these forums with no luck.....and it seems I am not the only one have trouble with crashes and poor download speeds from what I have read!!
I'll keep messing around for a while and see but I just paid the Acquisition license fee ($15 is for nothing) and use that for the moment until the problem is rectified or I give up
