It might be a netwk speed access issue, particularly if it's a busy one. So you're using PC/Mac version of LW? Sure it's not a firewall (/permissions) issue?

not a busy network at all, only 2 users, the switch is a 100baseTX, all NICs are set to be 100baseTX with 1500 MTU, so everything is talking the same speed etc.

as for LW we are using the 4.1.1jum38 cvs build for Mac. I have had this crashing problem with every version tried previously.

as far as permissions go, both accounts have read/write access to the file share for mp3s .. with that said, all LW should need is read anyway.

firewall shouldnt be an issue since the problem is with the client crashdumping after i add the path to the share on the internal network in the sharing section under prefences .. it wouldnt be passing any traffic through the firewall, until after LW has cataloged the share and someone requestes a file.

got any other ideas?

Sounds as though it's not necessarily a LW issue but moreso, an issue with your setup. I'm neither a firewall/netwk person so I probably shouldn't be anwerring this, but it sounds as though it's something else! My only attempts at using LW over a netwk 2-3 of yrs ago were a failure for a few reasons. One of them being firewall & another being an extremely busy server (access speeds at times were particularly slow), but neither of these things seems to apply to you. If you're really determined to upld/dwnld, try other alternatives such as (if at all possible) locally.
There are people on the forum who know about these issues, hopefully at least one will come to the attention of this one!
