Limewire Freezes

EVERY TIME I TRY TO DOWNLOAD A FILE IT GOES WELL AT FIRST, DOWNLOADS, THEN VERIFIES, GETS TO A 100% ,THEN IT FREEZES, I HAVE TO FORCE IT OUT AND THE FILE STAYS IN THE INCOMPLETE FOLDER. IT WORKED FINE A FEW MONTHS AGO, I HAVE TRIED DELETING ALL LW FILES AND DOWNLOADING IT AGAIN WITH NO POSITIVE RESULTS. I ALSO TIRED PRO AND NO GOOD NEWS.
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP.

sounds like a Classic problem (file is being hashed; this takes a while for large files, especially on OS 9), but this is the OS X forum.

Which version of the OS, Java and LimeWire are you using? The info is available in LimeWire Preferences->Bug Reports->Sample Bug Report. Just copy the 1st 4 lines or so and post it here.

Just a point, it's not wise to use the OS9 version LW under Classic mode of OSX.

Thank you for your response, I am using OSX 10.3.5, Java 1.4.2, and Limewire 4.0.8
Any ideas?

Well, check a reliable source (i.e. download a free file from www.magnetmix.com) and see if it freezes on the verification.

If so, then the problem is in your set-up. If not, then the problem is with the source of the file you mentioned in your first post.

Before reading your kind reply I downloaded the new beta version and it freezed again, but then I did as you suggested and downloaded a free file from Magneticmix and it went great. Therefore I understand from your email that it must be the source, but to be honest I dont get it, I have tried to download all my music from LW directly and I suppose it comes from many places not just one. Could you clarify this?

limewire just develops software that allows users like you and I to share files (they don't "supply" files). So yes--it comes from many sources, and we don't know when people will turn on their sharing and how long they leave their machines turned on.

Well, at least you know your setup works. If you get a bad source, just repeat the search and hope you can find some better sources.

Cheers--happy hunting
