Occasional Freak Modem Speeds? I use a 56k modem, and normally achieve downloads no faster than 6kb/s... but on very rare occasions, I'll notice that LimeWire has connected at a speed that hovers between 30 and 35kb/s. This speed of download unfortunately lasts for only a few minutes, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what causes these sudden busts of speed, and if there is any way to make them a more frequent occurrence. Am I just getting lucking and finding myself connected to a user with an exceptional connection speed, or what? |
If you find out tell me I'd love to know. I did notice odd spurts of dwnld speed even from the net in general, but as far as LW is concerned, I'd be just a little cautious of such speeds. Sometimes files that seem to dwnld faster than expected are corrupt files. No guarantees they will be but just keep that in mind. |
The thought that such speeds could mean that the file is corrupt has crossed my mind. I can't recall if I ever bothered to finish any of the downloads that ever got up to that fast, I often end up getting frustrated and kill the d/l. When you consider that a download of 35kp/s is using about 60% of a 56k connection speed, it does sound very fishy that it could manage to go that quickly. |
